So you though Koreans are only good at making hatchbacks?! Well check this out. It’s called the Spirra and by the looks of things it’s a full-on supercar. It has a tubular spaceframe, a full carbon body (which kinda looks like Noble M15), a mid-mounted engine, it’s rear wheel drvie and comes with a proper manual gearbox. It sounds promising…

The beating heart of the Spirra 2.7 liter V6 engine, and its output depends on you! If you are not willing to spend more cash and leave the engine as a normally aspirated unit, then you will have to live with only 170 hp. But if you decide that you want a Turbo on it, then you three choices: you can have a small, big or a twin turbocharger! They come with small,big and twin intercoolers and give 300, 400 and 450 to 500 hp respectively.

Now that might seem like a good idea,to have different stages of power for different budgets, but it’s not supercarish at all! If you want to make a supercar give it as much power as you can, why hold back?!

Koreans also claim that they have developed the Spirra’s chassis based on their experiences in GT racing and that it’s a good compromise between function and luxury with top-notch quality. So it might be a great car, but a car nonetheless. It doesn’t have the soul of a supercar!

History in brief

The history of the Spirra dates back to the beginning of the 1990s when Han-chul Kim and his wife Ji-sun Choi, both talented automotive experts, quit their jobs in leading Korean car companies to establish ‘Proto Motors’.

Proto Motors was an automotive R&D firm specializing in developing advanced automotive concepts with industry clients and soon after settling down as a startup, ideas for a domestic developed supercar started to blossom.

Over several years, what began as an enthusiastic set of ideas developed into a full blown development project. In 2001, the ‘PS-II’ prototype was presented to the press with full commitment to bring it into production.

The difficulties in establishing a small scale, hand built production line of such exotic cars in an industry purely adapted to mass production was so great, the project saw several crisis that would nearly force it to a halt.

In July, 2006, Dong-hyuk Park, CEO of Oullim Group established Oullim Motors, absorbed Proto Motors and reshuffled the project to keep in on course for launch. In the end, it took a decade, 4 generations of complete re-engineering, certification and rewriting of legislature to bring our dream to the road.

As of March 2010, all legislature, homologation and certification was cleared for full production. We are expecting our first cars to be delivered this summer.

Since the first words about the revival of Lotus Espirit came out, there has been a lot of speculations about its details although even if they are going to make it it won’t come sooner than 2012! but nevertheless. The last rumor is a good one! It says that the next Espirit will be a supercar featuring the 500hp V10 engine of the Lexus LF-A.

Of course the first thing that makes you skeptical about this rumor is the fact that LF-A itself is not ready to come out and how can plan on something which doesn’t exist yet! On the bright side, Lotus and Toyota have very good relationship! Best versions of the Elise are powered by Toyota engines. Taking into account that Lotus, no matter how good they are, is still a small car maker and might not survive in a fight with big boys if it goes alone, some backup force from Toyota sounds like a sweet deal for them.

And there will be a war if they decide to put the V10 in it! In this case the Espirit will go head to head with Lamborghini Gallardo and Audi R8 and Ferrari F450. With the V10 as the top of the range model, there can be more affordable versions of the car with the V8 of Lexus IS-F or the 300hp 3.0 liter V6 Toyota engine developed by Lotus.

You probably can’t do better than these two big fellas if you are looking for the perfect car! These cars are four-door saloons with every imaginable luxury and safety equipments and are powered by massive engines which can leave every modern supercar in a deep shame! These are Mercedes S63 AMG and S65 AMG super sedans, now on video!

Mercedes S63 AMG is a beast really with that magnificent 6.2  liter V8 under the bonnet developing 552 hp, but if that’s not enough for you somehow, choose S65 AMG which cost about 50 grand more, but is truly the ultimate car for the ultimate person! It is powered by a bi-turbo V12 which kicks out 612 hp! Unlike the S63 which sounds like a wounded lion, the S65 is not a naughty car. It’s much more discreet and Gentlemenish! So, your choice!

The upcoming Speedster version of the Mini is such a cool prospect, probably the coolest car we are waiting for mainly because it’s not a million billion dollar supercar which even if you can afford one you won’t be driving it very often. It is an affordable true sports car which, in real world, can deliver driving pleasure you won’t even find in Bugatti Veyron! And I’m not exaggerating, am I?!

Anyhow, after the renderings, this little sketch has emerged which quit possibly can be the real shape of the car. After all, the recipe for a small speedster is simple! Low windshield, bucket seats, a powerful engine and lots of exhaust noise!

The most probable engine to be inside of the Speedster is the one from Cooper S with 175 hp, which given the specs of the car should be enough to put a big smile on your face every time you press the throttle! And there are a lot of tuners already queuing up to give this baby the extra juice it might need, so no worries!

Mini with the Speedster will remind to big car makers that making a good car is not that hard! It will also remind us of the good old days of fluffy British sports cars!

Do you guys remember when we first featured the first Danish supercar, the 1000 hp  Zenvo ST1 and called a Veyron wannabe? Well, as it turns out they have taken the game very seriously! As you see here some domestic media has been testing it and by the looks of things Zenvo got quit a lot to show off. Of course the vid is Danish and they are not going to mock their own thing, are they! But a car with 1104 hp and 1430 nm is quit something after all!

The new SLS AMG supercar from Mercedes is finished, no doubt about that. But Mercedes is not going to unveil it like they do normal cars. Oh no! they will tease us to death before they show it! Despite the disguise, some details of the showroom-ready car can be noticed from these pictures, like the LED lights in the headlights or tail lights graphic which is similar to SLR or the shape of the grille.

This hurts! doesn’t it?! It also shows how dangerous can it be crashing a short wide supercar into a tall SUV! Fortunately in this incident no one was hurt and the Lambo is not wrecked either. I just wanna know how was Hyundai’s driver feeling when he got rear ended and lifted by this! Even in normal condition he wouldn’t see the Lambo in his rear view mirror!

Lexus is still not sure if they are finally going to mass produce the LF-A supercar or not, but nonetheless, they keep coming to Nürburgring for the 24-hours races! It’s the second year in row they attend the event, apart from this the LF-A appeared once in Fuji racetrack as well.

Lexus says they are going to use the feedback from the race to improve the car’s performance. Very nice, but come on, for how long you are developing a single car?! Just release the thing!

Mercedes has released the official sketches of the upcoming SLS AMG Gullwing supercar as a preview, sorta teaser plus some shots of the interior design. Judging on these sketches, you have to say it is a decent replacement for the mighty SLR.

Beside the sketches, we also had some renderings you might want to observe, but we have to wait until more clear images surface to see what’s what. For now let’s just talk about the fully revealed interior.

The cabin features a classic layout emphasized with those circular air vents. The dashboard lines resembles the original 300 SL as well. This retro theme has a great contrast with the modern ingredients of the car, like the big central monitor, or the brilliant trip computer in the front panel, there is also a nice set of LED lights which turn red as the car revs up . Also That line of chunky dial and buttons on the mid console makes you feel you are in the cockpit of a fighter bomber!

With all that leather and carbon fiber it’s a very nice place to be in, however it’s not flawless. For example there are too many buttons and knobs which is not cool and that steering wheel from the SL is not very supercarish!

The SLS AMG Gullwing will go on sale next year as the 2011 model.

Mercedes Benz has started a big media campaign for their upcoming super car, the SLS AMG Gullwing. They are actually making a story of it, from its birth, development, testings and… and you know what, it deserves this much attention!

After the ‘official’ spy photos which Mercedes themselves put out, now comes the videos! Showing the car during its test sessions in Sweden, Laredo and Pikes Peak. There is also a promo film.

This 580 horsepower retro style supercar is probably the most important launch we are expecting in 2010. You can see the SLS renderings HERE.

This modern-classic  Weissman lookalike GT car is the limited edition Faralli & Mazzanti Vulca S and it’s named after a sculptor! It combines the joys of classic motoring with features of a modern super GT.

And this sorta combinations usually work. The car is in proper classic-GT measures.  It’s a 2+2 with short tail, long bonnet and as F&M claims a big engine under the bonnet!When they finally finish the car, it’ll have either a 5.8 liter tricked-out V8 which develops 630 hp  or a 7.0 liter V12 with 530 hp. The Vulca is also very light, it’s made of aluminum so the performance is superb! 0-100 acceleration under 4 seconds and top speed of just over 330 km/h. Interior is  garnished with very fine leather trim and features high-tech equipments like a high-end audio/video system.

It is a hand-made high quality product and extremely exclusive too since only 10 examples will be ever made with price of about 300.000 Euro.

Vulca classically interprets the typical concept of “GT all’italiana”: lightweight, hand beaten all aluminium bodywork, 2+2 coupè, sinuous and modern, elegant yet aggressive style. Under the hood pulsates a powerful, reliable, latest generation engine which provides in all its guises exhilarating performance.

This is the latest speculation about McLaren’s upcoming so-called baby supercar which is a small mid-engine sporty, and yes it brings the Audi R8 to mind because it’s supposed to be its main rival. More than that they think they can take on Porsche with this car, and they being McLaren, They can! and some!

It’ll probably use the forthcoming P11 platform but comes in a more compact size and based on these renderings it looks like the P11 too. However if you don’t like it do not rush to diss it because the final product will certainly be good since it’s a job given to Frank Stephenson, ex-Ferrari designer and creator of 599 GTB. Like the P11 the baby Mc will be powered by an AMG engine, so no shortage in terms of performance. Being a compact car means that it is light as well, so a full carbon fiber structure is for sure. As for acceleration and top speed figures, you can expect it to match the competition, numbers like 4.5 seconds and 300+ kph.

So to challenge the Audi R8, Porsche 911 and Ferrari 430 (450 for the time it comes!), the baby McLaren should be priced accordingly. A price tag of around £80,000 sounds reasonable and since the world already awaits the P11, it’s too soon to expect this baby. Fingers crossed for 2012!

Caparo T1 is certainly the scariest supercar in the world. Last year this Formula wannabe appeared in many high profile events and TV shows and broke down in almost all of them! and in some occasions it caught fire in which the worst is when Jason Plato of Fifth Gear was testing it and he got burned on his hand, neck and face. So we are a bit skeptical about this new 2009 model which will debut at Salon Prive on 12th February 2009 at London’s Hurlingham Club.

Tramontana, the Spanish supercar which is the closest thing to a road-going fighter jet is updating with a new R-edition model. Like the first car, it uses a mouth-watering 5.0 liter twin-turboV12 engine which checks out 720 hp and 920 Nm of torque. You can tell this much power in a road legal race car will be a bit of a handful though, something like Caparo T1. We recently reported about a Tramontana for sale in UAE for 750,000 euros so this R-edition can easily hit the one million mark.

The new Mercedes flagship supercar is confirmed for, not this year’s, but 2010 Geneva Motorshow and will come in both coupe and roadster forms. The retro-designed Merc with gullwing doors ranks below the outgoing Mclaren SLR as it’s powered by an AMG V8 with 580hp and 640nm, which is a bit disappointing as we expect it to be more powerful than the SLR. Afterall, with the SLR gone, this SLC will be the company’s flagship model.

A year after the coupe, a roadster version will appear which has conventional doors. Technical specs are the same for both cars and will guarantee under 4 seconds acceleration and top speed of over 300kmh. Mercedes has plans to deliver 6000 units of this car for price of several hundred thousands Euros.

This is gonna be one of the most important news of the year! Mercedes is working on the next generation SLK and apparently it’s Gullwing, a smaller version of forthcoming SLC supercar, and it’s a hybrid! Hold on a minute! Gullwing? So SLK won’t a roadster no more? Or maybe it’s a top-of-the-range flagship variant of the next gen SLK? Actually because it’s hybrid, designers, returning to Gullwing shape, moved the doors on the roof so side sills can be large enough to house batteries. Fabulous! If you wanna make a hybrid this is the way you should do it!

It’s likely the range-topping SLK will use the same advanced lithium-ion battery technology as the Blue Zero E-Cell concept which debuted at the Detroit Motor Show earlier this month. It has batteries that drive an electric motor, and the model can run for around 120 miles before needing to be recharged.

In the SLK, this combination will be teamed with a petrol engine, possibly a development of the 3.5-litre V6 used in the current car. With a brake-energy regeneration system – like the KERS set-up on this season’s Formula One cars – plus stop-start, the SLK Gullwing would be extremely efficient, with fuel economy of around 40mpg and CO2 emissions of 150g/km.

Performance will be superb, too. Combined with the V6 engine, the petrol-electric set-up would have as much torque as a regular V8. And with the electric motor assisting the engine under full throttle and up hills, owners could expect awesome acceleration, with 0-60mph in five seconds and a top speed of 155mph. Fine-tuning of the performance and handling is likely to be carried out by Mercedes’ AMG division.

The baby Gullwing is still some way off yet, though. It’s likely that the new SLK range will go on sale in 2011, with this flagship version arriving in 2012. The SLK will continue to be rear-wheel drive, although changes to the line-up will include a slight increase in size, and the availability of a folding glass roof for the first time.

Mercedes’ new SLK is not the only major development at the smaller end of the firm’s range. It is also planning a new front-wheel-drive A-Class-based roadster, which would gun for BMW’s 1-Series Convertible. It’s expected to arrive in 2010, and will draw its styling inspiration from the Vision SLA concept car.

Great! Return of Gullwing is a fantastic news. Of course we have to wait until 2011 or 12 to see this car but the SLC is about to come in next few month. If next SLK is so great this new SLC supercar is going to be a masterpiece.  And maybe this is the start of a new Gullwing era, maybe more is to come…

Now this is a question that everyone is asking, Which country has best supercars ?!! Youtube might have the answer! What you see in this footage is a comparison between two small country with big number of supercars, two country with totally different cultures but both wealthy enough to house some of the world’s most exclusive cars, the Principality of Monaco and United Arabic Emirates. Based on this pictures, in Monaco, people being older and more discreet, there are more classic exotics and special editions, while in UAE, people being a bit new money, they mostly prefer modified and utterly flash cars. Fisker Automotives recently unveiled their plug-in hybrid supercar at Detroit Motorshow. The Karma is the first green hyper car which offers incredible performance, exotic looks and economy all in one package and all for $87,900 which is the cost of a normal German saloon.
