To increase the appeal of the little Polo, Volkswagen announced new R0Line packages for it.

The Exterior R-Line kit, priced from €1,450 on the Comfortline and €1,010 on Highline models, include a body kit consisting of a sporty grille in high-gloss black, R-Lie sporty bumpers with fog lamps at front and a big tailpipe and a diffuser at the back, as well as roof spoiler and side skirts.

It also comes with 16-inch Mallory wheels, while 17-inch rims are also available. You also get some R badges.

The R Plus package covers the interior and add items like leather sports seats with Alcantara or Kyalami, aluminum pedals and steering wheels badge, which is also leather-wrapped, side sills and chrome R badges, as well as black roof lining.

The R Pus package costs €855 on the Comfortline and €450 on the Highline model.

Most of the records in the Guinness World Record book are stupid to be honest. This one though, actually makes sense. If everybody could park like this, most of the the traffic problems would be solved! Check out how this German fella, Ronny Wechselberger, set the world record for the tightest parallel parking. Volkswagen removed the SE and Moda trim levels from UK Polo range and instead added the new Match trim which offers greater value.

The Match offers the most popular features of the previous models with better specification, or £650 worth of equipment in other words. Yet at £11,300 the 1.2-litre 60 PS manual version, it undercuts the cheapest SE by £215.

On the outside, the Match Polo comes with stylish 15-inch ‘Castille’ alloy wheels, front fog lights and heat-insulating tinted rear windows. The standard features of the car include manual air conditioning, an RCD 310 radio / CD player, multifunction computer and MDI (Multi Device Interface) with iPod connectivity all standard.  The model is also fitted with electric windows and a comfort pack, incorporating remote central locking and electrically adjustable exterior mirrors.

The car also packs good safety features for its size, including four airbags, ABS and ESP.

Engine-wise, the Match is available with two petrol units – a 1.2-litre three-cylinder producing 60 PS and  a 1.4-litre 85 PS – plus one diesel – a 1.2-litre 75 PS. Standard transmission is a 5-speed manual, but you can order 7-speed dual-clutch DCT with the 1.4-litre petrol engine. You also have the choice of three or five door body styles.

Also available are a range of attractive finance deals for the Polo Match. And when the car is bought with a Solutions PCP package, it also qualifies for one year’s free insurance and three years or 30,000 miles free servicing

Following footsteps of Subaru and Mitsubishi, Volkswagen is reportedly readying a Polo R hot hatch to complement its Polo R WRC program.

As you might know Volkswagen recently announced its World Rally Championship program which will begin in 2013 with a specially prepared Polo R WRC powered by a 1.6 liter turbo engine. The Polo R road-going will also come in the same year as the rally car.

The VW Polo R is expected to get a variant of the firm’s 1.4 liter TSI engine which, given the 177 bhp output of the Polo GTI, should make at least 200 bhp. So what we are waiting for is basically a modern-day take on the original Golf GTI, only it’s called the Polo! The current Golf GTI is heavy and fat and nowhere near as fun as the original GTI which was light and nimble and agile. The Polo R with its small size and big power could bring back some of the lunacy, some of the joy.

Volkswagen’s continues success at Rally Dakar gave them confidence to also try out WRC. And they’ve came up with this Polo R for the job which starts its career from 2013.

Maybe if the rules of World Rally Championship hadn’t been changed, we could see a VW Golf WRC instead of this. But now with the 1.6 liter displacement, direct injection and turbocharged engines, the Polo is the perfect candidate to go against cars like Ford Fiesta and Citroen DS3. The Polo R WRC is powered by a 300 bhp 1.6-litre TSI engine and has four-wheel drive.

That’s all the details VW has revealed so far. But they’ve also provided a cool promo video for the Polo R which is worth a look at:

“We have invited you to join us here in Olbia to announce Volkswagen’s entry in the World Rally Championship starting in 2013.” – These were the words used by Volkswagen Management Board Member Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg as he declared Volkswagen’s entry into the most versatile of the four automobile world championships (World Rally Championship, WRC). In front of 200 journalists he unveiled the concept of the Polo R WRC, the car with which Volkswagen will compete from 2013 onwards, together with Luca de Meo, Head of Marketing of Volkswagen AG, and Volkswagen Motorsport Director Kris Nissen. Luca de Meo: “Almost exactly two years ago, in May 2009, the most recent model of the Polo was presented here in Sardinia. Today we are proud to show you the hottest Polo of all time – the Polo R WRC.” For Kris Nissen and his team the World Rally Championship entry marks a new commitment. “We look forward to this new challenge and are working on this project with the same passion with which we won the Dakar Rally in the past three years,” said Kris Nissen.

Sources close to the German manufacturer are reporting that Volkswagen is set for a full-on World Rally Championship campaign and they are preparing a WRC version of the Polo for the job.

VW apparently has been thinking of entering WRC since the new regulations for 1600cc engines announced. They must have become bored y winning Rally Dakar over and over again and want some new tougher challenge!

VW Polo WRC is reportedly under development by French engineer Francois-Xavier Demaison who’s worked with Peugeot, Citroen and Subaru. Another more familair name involved in the project is the Dakar winner Carlos Sainz.

VW is yet to reveal its driver lineup, but they’ve already talked with Sebastien Loeb who refused the offer. That shows how serious VW is about their WRC career. They’ve even made Skoda to abandon its WRC ambitions! Sources say former champion Petter Solberg is one of the candidates to drive the Polo WRC.

Volkswagen asked Karl Lagerfeld, the famous designer and photographer, to promote their new STYLE package for VW Polo and Golf. The STYLE is a value-added package which adds a couple of extra goodies to the hatchbacks, including new alloy wheels, lightly tinted windows, and fog lights and some badges.

As for the price, The Polo STYLE currently available in Germany starts from €14,075 and the Golf STYLE from €18,825. More optional features along with customization possibility for all variants are also available.

VW today took the wraps off the four-door sedan version of the Polo in Russia, because it’s designed exclusively for that market. Of course almost certainly this car will hit European markets as well, maybe with a couple of changes. Built at Volkswagen AG’s plant in Kaluga, the Polo Sedan comes with a new 1.6-litre petrol engine (77 kW / 105 PS), and can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed auto gearbox.

The car also comes as standard with two airbags, head rests and three-point seat belts for all five passengers for the basic trim levels, but if you fancy things like side air-bags, ABS and ESP you should go for the better equipped more expensive models. So as you see it’s a very eco-minded car and it needs to be in order to sell in the Russian market.

2011 Polo Sedan is priced slightly over 10,000 Euros.

In conjunction with the timeless design, a level has been reached that is unprecedented in this segment and this market.”

As the all-new generation of the VW Polo GTI gets ready to be launched the company released full official details of this little beast. The 2010 Polo GTI manages to be both sporty and economical, and that’s a hard trick to pull off. For that it’s equipped with a highly advanced 1.4-litre TSI engine which is both supercharged and turbocharged to give 180 hp.

180 hp is a lot in a car that’s slightly smaller than your shoe and also weighs considerably less! So it goes like a stabbed rat, but we are in 21st century and what really matters here is how economical it is. The Polo GTI has a combined fuel consumption to 5.9 l/100 km and CO₂ emissions of just 139 g/km, which is brilliant for a car that can do 229 km/h.

The car can also accelerates to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds. Contributing to the good performance and astonishing fuel economy is indeed the 7-speed DSG gearbox they’ve put in it. Also the 1,194 kilogram weight of the car helps a lot.

VW has also worked a lot on the car’s handling and drivability:

An electronic transverse differential lock (XDS) reduces the tendency to understeer and improves handling especially in quick driving through curves. Like all versions of the model series, the Polo GTI also comes equipped with the standard ESP electronic stabilisation programme including Hill Climb Assist.

As for the suspension, new, stiffer dampers are linked to specially modified springs that lower the ride height by 15 millimetres compared to “Normal versions”. The effect: lower angles of body roll and a lower centre of gravity. Both have positive effects vehicle dynamics through curves. Serving the same purpose are the low-profile tyres (215/40 R17 87V) on alloy wheels in GTI-typical 5-hole “Denver” styling (7Jx17), whose look the new top Polo shares with the Golf GTI.

And sure they have not forgot about safety, as the Polo GTI comes standard with a highly effective airbag network, including combined head-thorax side airbags, belt tensioners, belt tension limiters plus belt warning, head restraints designed to avoid whiplash trauma (each in front), three rear head restraints as well as Isofix points on the rear bench seat for suitably fitted child seats.

A hot hatchback is as much about the performance as it is about comfort and convenience. Therefore the 2010 POLO GTI is packed with features including electro-hydraulic power steering, electric windows in front, central locking, bootspace lighting and tie-down eyes, warning buzzer for light not turned off, driver seat height adjustment, make-up mirror in the sun visors and green tinted insulated glass. The GTI will be the first Polo to be available with bi-xenon headlights with cornering lights, LED daytime running lights and corner marker lights as well as a panoramic tilt/slide sunroof. Naturally, GTI-specific features are always standard too, such as the sport seat system and 17-inch alloy wheels in “Denver” design.

Moreover you get pedal caps in aluminium look, electric adjusting and heated door mirrors, air conditioning, RF remote control of central locking and front fog lights. The leather trimmed steering wheel is equipped with two DSG paddles, one on the left and one on the right.

So there you go! If you want a Golf GTI but can’t afford one, here is a good alternative.

In their quest to prove that all the hybrids are totally pointless, VW presents a new version of their Turbodiesel BlueMotion engines. This new 1.2 liter 3-cylinder TDI unit which is lightened and enhanced for better efficiency, delivers 55kW / 75PS and 180 Nm of torque, which is fairly enough for the cue little Polo.

And as for fuel economy emissions, how does 3.3 liter per 100 Km and 87 g/Km move you?! Well, literally it should be able to move you 1,363 km between each fill ups. This will beat even the most sophisticated hybrid in the market today, while costing a whole lot less.

Professor Dr. Wolfgang Steiger, Head of Future Technologies in Group Communications, explains: “Attitudes toward mobility are changing – not least of all due to the effects of the economic crisis and climate change – and are moving toward a sustainability perspective. Political entities around the globe react very differently to these issues, but they nearly always end up focusing on the promotion of electric mobility.”

Steiger adds that long distance and freight transportation will continue to rely on internal combustion engines with highly efficient drive systems in the foreseeable future, so a long period of coexistence can be expected between E-technology and classic internal combustion engines.

59 of the top automotive journalists from around the world gathered together again this year in New York to announce the 2010 World Car Of The Year, and as usual they picked something cheap, small and economical. It’s the Volkswagen Polo which has been chosen between 29 other nominees. The car owes a major part of this success to its brilliant BlueMotion technology which really makes all the hybrids look like gas guzzlers!

In a separate award, the BlueMotion product brand consisting of the Golf, Passat, and Polo, was declared the 2010 World Green Car of the Year by the World Car of The Year organisation.

The 59 member jury awarded the BlueMotion product brand over two other finalists in the 2010 World Green Car award: the Honda Insight and the Toyota Prius.

Jurors felt that: ‘It is not necessary to add an electric motor and a heavy battery pack to achieve class-leading efficiency.  Based on Volkswagen’s common rail diesel engines, the BlueMotion models are among the most fuel-efficient vehicles on the market.  In fact, the Passat BlueMotion can travel just about 1,000 miles on one tank of fuel in the European cycle. As far as internal combustion engines go today, these models are the ultimate you can get.’

‘BlueMotion is one of the most successful efficiency brands worldwide.  It stands for tremendous competence in efficient and economical drive trains at Volkswagen,’ said Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, delighted about the appreciation by the jury.

The award was received at the New York International Auto Show on Thursday morning by Walter de Silva, head of design for Volkswagen Group.

VW revealed the official MSRP for the right hand drive VW Polo BlueMotion in the British market. Equipped with 75 hp – 180 nm 1.2-liter TDI three-cylinder common-rail diesel engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and fitted with auto start/stop and braking energy recovery systems, the Polo BlueMotion is one of the most economical cars in the world averaging 80.7 mpg with Co2 rating of 91 g/km. Prices start at £14,445 for the three-door and £15,045 for the five-door model.

Of course with such a tiny engine the car has no performance as such, but no one seeking performance would buy a Polo anyway! For the rest of Europe it’s priced at 16,500 Euro.

A day after releasing the first pictures of the new VW Polo GTI, the company decided to reveal the official details of the car too before its public debut in Geneva. This is a very important car because it is basically a discount version of the Golf GTI, and from now on anyone interested in buying a normal Golf, would go for the Polo GTI because for the same amount money it offers much more sportiness.

Available in a three-door and a five-door version, the Polo GTI comes with a 178 hp – 250 nm of torque 16-valve 1.4 liter supercharged/turbocharged four-cylinder engine, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG gearbox. Since the car weighs 1,194 kg, this engine enables it to accelerate to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 229 km/h, while remaining fairly efficient with average fuel consumption of 5.9 litres per 100 kilometres and CO2 emissions of just 139 g/km.

The Polo GTI also has sporty chassis setting. It comes with McPherson front suspension and semi-independent rear suspension with sport springs which lowers the whole car by 15mm than the standard model. It is fitted with ESP and the XDS electronic transverse differential lock and low-profile tyres (215/40 R17 87V) on alloy wheels in GTI-typical 5-hole “Denver” styling (7Jx17).

So it’s got impressive technical features, but to become a real hot hatchback, it should also have good convenience. And fortunately it is well equipped with stuff like: pedal caps in aluminium look, electric window lifts in front (three-door) and rear (five-door), electric adjusting and heated door mirrors, air conditioning, RF remote control of central locking and front fog lights. The leather trimmed steering wheel is equipped with two DSG paddles, one on the left and one on the right. Then there is of course a passive safety package with driver and front passenger airbags, head-thorax side airbags and belt tensioners in front, as well as Isofix points on the rear bench seat for suitably fitted child seats.

There’s no mention of the pricing for the time being.

Along with the new Polo GTI, VW will also unveil the new generation of Polo Crossover, or the CrossPolo, at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. Unlike the Polo GTI which is 15mm lower than the standard Polo, the CrossPolo is 15mm higher! And with its five-door layout, interior and cargo space and economical engines, it offers a good all-rounder for families.

At Launch the CrossPolo will be available with three petrol and three common rail TDI engines, with power ranging from 51 kW / 70 hp and 77 kW / 105 hp. The petrol models include a 1.2 liter, a 1.2 liter TSI and a 1.4 liter, while all of the TDI diesel engines are 1.6 liter but come with different setups and develop 55 kW / 75 hp, 66 kW / 90 hp and 77 kW / 105 hp. All three variants need just 4.3 litres of diesel per 100 km in combined mode and emit just 113 grams CO2 per kilometre.

All of the engines in the range cover the Euro5 standard, and you can also have the sophisticated 7-speed DSG gearbox with some of them.

The new CrossPolo also shows off its versatile talents when it comes to space and efficient space utilisation. As mentioned, the rear bench can be folded with a standard 60:40 split. When it is completely folded, the car’s cargo capacity increases from 280 to 952 litres. The dual cargo floor – adjustable to two height levels – creates a continuously level loading surface. Four tie-down eyes simplify secure fastening of the cargo to be transported, while two hooks in the side trim panels keep bags from tipping over.

The CrossPolo is also a very well-equipped car considering its class. You get standard features like height-adjustable sport seats, an asymmetrically split rear bench and backrest, pockets on the backs of the front seats and sliding drawers under them, leather-trimmed steering wheel, centre armrest in front (with storage compartment), pedal caps in aluminium look and chrome on various switches and components. The latter include the door handles, surrounds for the window lift switches and air vents. Also standard: electric adjustable and heated door mirrors, electric window lifts all around, illuminated make-up mirrors in the sun visors, multi-function display (MFA) including tyre pressure monitoring (tyre pressure monitoring system, TPMS) and central locking with RF remote control.

2010 VW CrossPolo which is currently available to order in Germany gets new exclusive colors like “Magma Orange“ and “Terra Beige Metallic”, and rolls on 17-inch Budapest style alloy wheels in 5-spoke design with size 215/40 tires. Pricing of the car is TBA.

For those who cannot afford a real Golf GTI, VW is preparing the Polo GTI which will make its debut during 2010 Geneva Motor Show. It has got all of the hot hatchback-ish features you might expect: sport suspension, 17-inch wheels, twin exhausts, GTI grille, and above all a powerful engine. It has a 1.4 liter TSI with around 180 hp mated to a  dual clutch 7-speed transmission.

At 2010 New Delhi Auto Expo VW brought along the new Polo hatchback, which is nothing new for us but it is for Indians, and the Cup racing version. Powered by a diesel engine, this car is built for a one-make racing series which will start form June. Basically it is a stripped-put street Polo which is loaded with racing equipments.

Polo Cup is powered by a 1.6L R4 common rail diesel engine developing 130 HP@4400 rpm and torque of 250 Nm@ 1500-2500 rpm. This engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The car also comes with an aerodynamic body kit with front and rear spoiler, side skirts and rear wing.

VW has fitted the Cup Polo with SACHS adjustable racing suspension accompanied by 17 inch alloy wheels with 200/605 R17 slick tires. It also has FIA approved roll cage, fire extinguisher system with internal and external release, electrical cut off system and a race brake system with four piston fixed caliper and ventilated 312 mm disk front and 232 mm disc brake rear.

As for the interior, you get a race seat, a 6 point seatbelt prepared for HANS System, safety net on driver side, additional display and data logger system with on board camera.

The new updated version of VW’s super economical Polo BlueMotion five-door five-seater hatchback is now available to order and is priced at 16,500 Euros. This car features a three-cylinder TDI engine developing 75 hp / 55 kW power with BlueMotion technology, which must be some kind of witchcraft! because the Polo BM is the most economical car of its type with average fuel consumption of 3.3 liter per 100 Km!

The new generation of Polo BlueMotion is actually 22 percent (or 0.9 liter) more efficient than the old one, and its co2 emissions are also lower at 87 g/km, comparing to 109 for the old model. That begs the question why should we waste a lot of money on a hybrid, while we can get much better results and less overhead with this car?! Don’t forget that it’s a practical five-seater hatchback which also looks conventional and not weird, like the hybrid cars!

The 2010 Polo BlueMotion is also very well equipped considering its class and price. You get standard features such as a cruise control system, leather-trimmed steering wheel and gearshift grip, tyre pressure indicator, front fog lights, sporty styling of front and rear bumpers as well as outside mirror housings and door handles painted in body colour.

About BlueMotion: Main features of this system inlcude the Stop-Start system and energy recovery by regenerative braking. But for the very best result, engineers have also upgraded the Polo with other modifications such as a nearly closed-off radiator grille and underbody panels designed according to aerodynamic principles and 15-inch “Greenland” type alloy wheels with low rolling resistance tires.

Honestly if you want an eco-friendly and economical car why would you buy an expensive hybrid when VW is introducing the new 2010 Polo BlueMotion?! The previous model of Polo BM was amongst world’s most fuel efficient cars, but the new one beats even that! In terms of fuel consumption the car averages 3.3 liters of diesel per 100 km, which is unbelievable, and put out only 87 grams of CO2 per every km.

VW Polo has a 45 liter fuel tank so on paper it should cover a distance 1,363 kilometres with a single fill up! Do some math and you realize that this car can save you a lot of money throughout the year.

Unsurprisingly, VW has done some calculations! Check it out: A person driving from Hanover to Venice can cover the 1,148 kilometre journey for just 40 Euros in fuel costs. That is because 100 kilometres cost just 3.50 Euros in the Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion. Another measure of cost effectiveness: according to the German Federal Bureau of Statistics, the average German car driver covers a total of 11,000 kilometres per year. For VW Polo BlueMotion owners this means that they only require eight fill-ups per year at a fuel cost of 385 Euros.

VW also offers this astonishing BlueMotion technology on other cars in the range. We suggest that if you are looking to buy one of these extremely efficient cars, pick the new Golf VI BlueMotion, as it looks much cooler but it’s more expensive!

In their quest to make more efficient engines through downsizing and then turbocharging, VW is introducing a new compact TSI engine which can be ordered with the Polo, Golf and Golf Plus. The previous compact 1.4 liter engine has been a hit and won many awards. The new 1.2 liter uses the same trick (turbochargers) to have the maximum efficiency while delivering an acceptable power of 77 kW / 105 hp and 175 Newton meters of torque from 1,500 rpm.

This engine is all very clever. Apart from its small displacement, it uses friction optimization and lightweight construction. The engine is not only based on an aluminum crankcase. In addition, the completely re-tuned direct injection provides smooth power development, low consumption and low emissions. VW is definitely using their precious experiences from developing the 1.4 liter to make the new engine even better.

The 1.2 liter engine averages about 5.2 liter per 100 km. A VW Polo equipped with this engine costs 16.425 Euro, the Golf starts at 18.475 Euro and the Golf Plus runs for 20.275 Euro.

VW is planning new variants of the small hatch back Polo to come by the end of the year. The most important one of course is the hot version, the GTI which looks very similar to the Golf GTI and will get a 1.4 liter TFSI engine with 180 hp. That’s quit a lot in such a tiny car and that’s why it’ll come with a clever electronic differential to keep it in check!

Apart from the GTI, Polo is considered as an economy minded car and there are good news in this aspect. A new variant of Polo which is focused on fuel saving will be available in the summer with a 1.2 liter 75 hp three-cylinder engine. At its best, this engine only uses 3.2 liters per 100 Km which is an astonishing record.

Another economy model will be the new BlueMotion diesel-powered ones. They are capable of 90 hp which is much more powerful than that 1.2 liter, but still quit light on fuel as they only burn 3.6 liter of diesel per 100 Km. It is achieved by improved aerodynamics, re-tuned gear ratios for fuel saving, light-resistance tires and of course the start/stop system.

There are rumors about a Polo Crossover, a notch back and a sedan variant as well, you have to wait for this year’s IAA Motor Show to find out if they are for real or not!
