Ford expands the Mondeo range in Britain by adding a new model powered by the UK-built 1.6-litre direct injection turbo petrol EcoBoost engine. This engine develops 160 PS which is considerably more than the output of the 2.0 liter model, while delivering 15 percent better fuel economy. This engine manages 41 mpg.

The new Ford Mondeo – five door version – equipped with the 1.6-litre 160PS EcoBoost engine and six-speed manual transmission is capable of 134mph, while returning 41.5mpg (combined) and emitting 158g CO2/km. It uses a combination of turbocharging, direct injection and variable cam timing to reduce fuel consumption and emissions while producing an extra 40PS over the Mondeo’s conventional 1.6 petrol engine.

Kevin Griffin, Ford of Britain fleet director, said:  “Ford’s newest Mondeo has an exterior look and standard of interior well suited to the executive car park.  We’ve added powertrains which support the lower carbon economy we now live in.  The efficient 1.6 EcoBoost in Mondeo is a sporty alternative for petrol advocates who switched to diesel in order to pay less tax.”

Further Ford Mondeo powertrain news follows in February next year when the 1.6 TDCi diesel engine with start-stop technologies arrives in UK showrooms. This Mondeo, targeting 115g/km CO2 to return 65.6mpg (combined), features a specially calibrated 115PS version of the Dagenham-built engine and will be fitted with an aerodynamic kit to minimise drag and low rolling resistance tyres.
