The new open-top Ferrari 488 Spider arrived in Frankfurt Motor Show yesterday flaunting an RHT (Retractable Hard Top) and a new Blu Corsa paint job. It could be a coincidence that the new Ferrari spider is wearing the same sort of color as the Lamborghini Huracan Spyder, but it doesn’t seem like it.
The Huracan Spyder and the Ferrari 488 Spider are going to continue the battle they have inherited from their predecessors and be at each other’s throat throughout the course of their lifetimes. The Ferrari seems better prepared for this battle though, boasting as mentioned a folding hardtop which is a huge plus over the Lambo’s fabric roof, and a more sophisticated powertrain.
Ferrari 488 Spider has the same 3902cc turbo-charged V8 as the hardtop version, developing 670 horsepower and a maximum of 760 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3 seconds dead and five seconds later it’s gone past 200. Meanwhile clever electronic systems such as SSC2 Side Slip Angle Control system make it easier for non-professional drivers to experience the car on the limit and enjoy themselves.
Along with the debut of the 488 Spider at IAA, Ferrari also announced the extension of the Apple CarPlay system to the entire Ferrari range. It began with the FF, but soon other models including the California T, the 488 GTB, the 488 Spider and the F12berlinetta will get the brilliant infotainment system.
