Often on the roads we see cars that are modified to the extent that they actually becomes an eye sore. The different parts of the car are “upgraded” to satisfy the owner’s interest, even though they do not belong together. Mismatched parts can be really awful, because the owners chose to cut the nose to spite the face. Therefore, choosing the right part for car modification is important so that it matches your car’s design perfectly. When it comes to cars, people love to change tires and rims. So, do you know how to choose the right rims for your tires?
Rims refer to the outer layer of the wheel where the tire tube is attached to. They come in various price, sizes and quality. Better rims that are expensive but they are worth the investment because rims are tending to face wear and tear. They are often exposed to moisture and heat and these factors can easily cause the rims to rust. A good set of rims should have a layer of protective electroplating paint, strong, made with quality materials and fulfills the standards of manufacturing.
Never opt for cheap rims because you do not have the budget to go for the shinny ones on the rack. Select the ones that are close to your budget and has good quality because one mistake can cause lives.
To choose the right rims, you should first look at the size of your original rims. The size of your new rims should be around the same size of the old ones to ensure that they have perfect fitting to your tires. If you are going for a sporty look, go for larger sizes but by changing your rim size, you might have to change your tires to make sure that they fit well.
There are millions of rim designs, and the common ones are alloy rims, aluminum rims and forged magnesium rims. Alloy rims are the heaviest and cheapest among the three but it is prone to bending. On the other hand, forged rims are very expensive but they are also very strong. Make sure that your new rims matches your bolt patterns before you purchase them. Design wise, you can always go for the one that is under the right category of sizes and materials. If you opt for an attention-grabber look, go for shinny chrome rims. But if you are opting for stable ones, go for spoke wheels that are expensive, but stable and it shows the inner works of your tires.
Take note of the weight of the rims. Smaller cars might not be able to sustain the weight of a set of 19” rims. If the rims are too heavy or too light, it might affect the stability of the car. Consult your in-store salesperson to ask for their professional recommendations to choose your right rims.
By knowing how to choose the right rims for your tires, it will not be a problem for you in finding the perfect match.
Hi,
I’m David from Indonesia. Currently, I’m driving Toyota Innova D4D 2.5L.
Engine no: 2KD6521337
Chasis no: MHFXR43G1A1006071.
What I want to ask is that I would like to change to bigger rims and tyres.
standard rim size: 6J X 15″
standard tyres size: 205 / 65 / 15
I want to change with :
rims size: 17″, offset: 40, front width: 7.5, rear width: 8
tyre size: 225 / 55 / 17
There are several questions which I’d like to raise:
1) Will my car looks higher with the above set up ? If it is, how can I make my car still looks nice ( not too high ), but does not affect the driving comfortability ?
2) Does the rims specifications still suitable for my car ? What I mean is that will it affect the driving comfortability ? I like to maintain my driving comfortability as the road conditions I’m going through everyday is not good.
Kindly advice on above matters. Your reply is highly appreciated.
Thank you very much.
