The wait is over and you can now place your order for a brand-new Viper. The 2013 SRT Viper is one of the coolest, most badass, manliest supercars in the world, but amazingly it is also one of the most affordable. Prices start at $97,395 for the base model, and $120,395.

Of course you have to add a $1,995 destination charge to those prices, but still, not many cars in that price range give you access to 640 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque, and top speed of 206 mph.

That power comes from a naturally-aspirated V10 with a ridiculous capacity of 8.4 liters! Granted, if you give an engine that size to the Europeans they come up with a lot more power. But in terms of performance, the Viper can challenge the best of what they have to offer. So it’s not all about the horsepower. Here’s SRT Viper’s performance numbers:

• Top speed = 206 mph
• 0-60 mph acceleration = low 3-second range
• Quarter-mile elapsed time = mid 11-second range
• 0-100-0 mph elapsed time = less than 12 seconds
• Braking distance from 60-0 mph = 106 feet
• Coefficient of drag (Cd) = .369

The new Viper still looks and sounds brutal, but its become more user-friendly. It now has traction control and ABS, a sophisticated, driver-selectable, two-mode suspension system for street or track use, a well-equipped, ergonomic cabin with advanced features digital dials and a super smart infotainment that can read your text messages to you.

It doesn’t mean the Viper has gone soft. It is just more usable now. That said, you could argue it’s become less challenging, and therefore a bit less fun.

Six exterior color choices are offered on the SRT Viper models including: Adrenaline Red, Venom Black, Bright White, Gunmetal Pearl, Race Yellow and Shadow Blue Pearl. The SRT Viper GTS model receives an expanded exterior color palette with the availability of Stryker Red Tri-Coat Pearl and GTS Blue. You can also order a pair of distinctive racing stripes.
