You have probably heard about this already. A while ago MotorTrend took the new SRT Viper to the Laguna Seca track and put it up against the Corvette ZR1. Despite their almost identical specs, the ‘vette beat the Viper by 2 seconds, which in motorsport talk is about two years. Now they released the full video of this head to head test.
Professional driver Randy Pobst argues that the Corvette is faster because in this car the performance is much more accessible, so he can push it harder around corners with less fear. It also has excellent brakes. The Viper is certainly fast in straight line, but around corners you have to work a lot harder to get it right. It is less compliant, as a Viper should be.
So facts and figures suggest the Corvette is the better car. But if you judge a car by how big a smile it puts on your face, the Viper seems like the likely winner.
