As part of the Fiat-Chrysler empire, Alfa Romeo too has got a new five-year plan and theirs is the most ambitious. The Italian brand is set for a major expansion which will see the production of eight new models between 2015 and 2018 including sedans, compact models, sports cars, and SUVs.

After years of producing just two hatchbacks, Alfa Romeo is once again on track to become a full-fledged auto maker and a real player in the European and American market. The expansion plans calls for the launch of a new sedan next year which is said to be the long-awaited Guilia. It will boast a rear-drive chassis and a range of new engines.

Alfa will launch a new engine lineup including a four-cylinder petrol unit with power outputs ranging from 110 to 30 horsepower. There will also be a V6 unit estimated to develop something between 400 to 500 horsepower. A high-torque diesel V6 is also planned, probably for the utility models.

Mercifully, the new plan is not just about family cars. Even though it promises new compact models, it puts a big emphasize on a category called “Specialty”. That is what spawned the 4C sports car, and what will bring us the 4C Spider later this year. Sometime between 2016 and 2018, the Specialty department will launch another high-end sports car sitting above the 4C.
