The annual L.A. Auto Show Design Challenge is one of the most important automotive events of the year, as some of the world’s top auto designers present their ideas for the future of motoring. This year and in the 9th edition of the challenge, the theme is ‘ultimate law enforcement patrol vehicle for the year 2025,’ and there are some very interesting proposals to consider.

These vehicles are designed to cope with the future’s crowded roads, electronically monitored and controlled traffic and significant changes in human behavior. That’s why the designers have come up with stuff like drone technology to observe, pursue and engage from the land and air, to renewable resource-fueled vehicles equipped with topographical scanners. To be honest it’s not really about car design anymore, but hey, some of these toys are pretty damn cool!

The entries chosen for the finals are submitted by designers from BMW Group, General Motors, Honda, Mercedes-Benz and Subaru.

The winner will be announced on November 29 at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, and it’s the one that satisfies all judging criteria, including: consideration of future needs for advanced technology; speed and agility on future freeway systems; creativity of the solution; meeting a specific region’s emission standards; and environmental sensitivity, including maintenance and recyclability.
