Gumball Rally, for those of you who don’t know, is a big party stretching in its current format over seven days, crossing two continents, five countries, and 3000 miles. In this party, cool people who own cool cars turn up with their rides and embark on a long journey that crams a year’s worth of fun in one week. It is, to quote Vanity Fair, a rock ‘n’ roll kind of rally.

This year’s event was the biggest and most lavish Gumball since its establishment in 1999 by British entrepreneur Maximilian Cooper. He started Gumball as a sort lifestyle brand combining cars, music, fashion, sports and entertainment; basically everything that is considered cool in modern pop culture.

2014 Gumball 3000 started in South Beach, Miami and finished last week in Ibiza, Spain. What staggers most about this event, apart from the fact that it basically locked down every city it visited for a concert, action sport, festival, or car show event, is the size of the operation and how they managed to handle it almost flawlessly.

This year Gumball’s lineup included 120 supercars and a huge number of participants, including high-profile celebrities. The logistics alone would have stymied an army, as it involved air travel, ferry rides and miles and miles of driving in a convoy across half the globe. But you have to remember Gumball is these days a multimillion dollar corporation. They can probably pay for the whole event with the money they make selling apparel.

Among the biggest attractions of 2014 Gumball we can mention beach parties in Miami, VIP hospitality events in New York, driving tour of Scottish Highlands, the takeover of London by Gumballers, Top Gear track day, a cultural drive through Paris, a highly amusing journey across Barcelona, and a huge party at the close of the rally in Ibiza.

Gumball is first and foremost about driving. It promotes safe driving, but the interpretation of safety rules are kind of loose, which is why it’s an interesting event. And let’s face it, when you have 120 supercars with drivers that party all night and drive all day, a few illegal races and rivalries are inevitable.

So the 2014 rally with all its amazing parties, concerts, festivals and challenges came to an end having amused millions of people around the world. They are already planning future events, and yes, they are going bigger still…

As of now we just wanted to leave you with a collection of exclusive Motorward pictures taken by one of our good friends, Rui Vasques. Rui is also a car freak (except for also owning a Mini…) that’s been following Gumball over the last few years; this time he went to Barcelona and got these we now want to share with you!
