In a recent survey by the oldest and most respected car magazine Autocar, the British public voted for top 100 greatest British cars of all time. The Original MINI, unsurprisingly, came out on top, beating cars like McLaren F1 and Jaguar E-Type, to achieve the title of the best Brit car ever made.
In the list of top 100 best British cars, Lotus is the most successful with seven models, Jaguar and Ford are next, both with six models, and Aston comes third with five models. Another interesting fact is that almost 90 percent of the cars voted as top 100 are old and classic models, with only a few modern cars like the McLaren P1 and 12C and Rolls-Royce Phantom making the list in lower places.
Autocar brand editor Chas Hallett commented: “It comes as little surprise that the original Mini has topped the list of all-time British greats. It’s such an iconic vehicle and represents a lot more than the British car industry; the Mini is associated with Great Britain around the world and, in many ways, it was ahead of its time.”
