Granted, 420 horsepower is not a huge amount of power these days. But when it’s crammed in a car the size of a shoe, well, that’s a different story. And that’s exactly what we have here with this Wimmer VW Polo, almost certainly the most powerful car of this size.
The Polo, for those of you who don’y know, is Volkswagen’s sub-compact city runabout, only slightly bigger than the Up! supermini. And it’s very much front-whee-drive, of course. So you can imagine what kind of havoc 420 horsepower could wreak on this little lamb’s disposition if it weren’t supported by some serious structural work.
Luckily, Wimmer VW Polo has got that covered, boasting KW-coilover suspension level III, wheel spacers for a wider stance, and 17 inch OZ wheels with 215/40 tires. They haven’t done anything to the brakes, but at least the handling is enhanced. The chassis has to manage 420 horsepower and 480 ft-lbs torque which, pushed to max, can propel the car to a top speed of 280 km/h.
As for what gives Wimmer VW Polo this kind of oomph, well, the engine is the standard 220 horsepower 2.0 liter Polo R WRC motor, upgraded through the use of high performance turbocharger and air intake, 6-bar fuel-pump, stainless steel sports exhaust system including valve control, revised software, Y-pipe and sport catalytic. The cost of package IV kit is 10,200 Euros.
