As if you needed another reason to follow the Japanese Super GT series next year, which will includes some seriously hot contenders from Lexus and Honda, Nissan has now revealed a new version of their player. The 2017 Nissan GT-R NISMO GT500 was unveiled at Twin Ring Motegi during the last round of the current season this past weekend.

Every participant in the 2017 Super GT series will have to be new in one way or another seeing as there are new regulations calling for a 25 percent reduction in total downforce. Turns out these race cars were too stable and too fast and it kind of made the action boring! So there is a fair degree of visual change every contender has to go through, which is great because it invariably results in better looking race cars.

Besides losing some of its aerodynamic efficiency which will make it looser and more exciting to watch, the new Nissan GT-R NISMO GT500 has also gained a little bit in power, and also been enhanced in terms of endurance and reliability. What’s more, the car’s dynamics were also improved through a lowered center of gravity and an optimization of weight distribution. We can’t wait to see how this beast will fare against its potent rivals in the upcoming season.

“We will make further development improvements during off-season tests and aim to create a race car that will shine brilliantly within the history of motorsports,” said president and CEO of NISMO, Takao Katagiri. “We hope to thrill fans with a fast, more appealing GT-R that will excite fans as it lines up on the grid for the opening round competing against the new Lexus and Honda machines.”
