Brazilian actor Rodrigo Santoro confirmed his negotiations to play the role of Ayrton Senna in a biopic of the late Brazilian driver (Ayrton Senna da Silva – 21 March 1960 – 1 May 1994).
Santoro guaranteed that he still hasn’t signed any contract and that, for now, it’s all a rumor, even though he mentions: “As I say, is a rumor that has merit. I’m in negotiations.”
The film will probably be a reality with or without Rodrigo. “People are working in the argument, there’s already a basic structure, but they are trying to figure out how to make it. It’s a very big project, probably the largest in Brazil’s film history.”
The actor also explained he’ll work close to Senna’s family if a deal is closed: “We will do everything in a very careful and respectful way”.
Back in 2010, Asif Kapadia made a documentary about the pilot (“Senna””), a film that’s probably the best car documentary in history, so we’re a bit afraid of what can come out from a soap opera environment…
