It seems that SRT kind of rushed the development of the new Viper, as the errors of their way are gradually becoming clear. First they found out that despite all the testing and tuning, the Viper is slower than the ZR1 and had to come up with the TA model. Now turns out the GTS model, the one they predicted to be a slow seller, is actually the most popular version.
So they should have focused on the GTS model from the beginning. According to a report by Wards Auto, the GTS accounts for more than 90 percent of all Viper sales, rendering the standard entry-level version completely pointless.
The Viper GTS models carry a $20,000 premium over the normal version, for which you get more luxury stuff such as Nappa premium leather seats in black, red or caramel, and power Sabelt seats with bright red cloth accents.
Performance-minded Viper buyers can get the Time Attack or the Track Pack, which more focused on lightness and handling. But it seems more peopel buy this car as a cruiser, a posemobil if you will, so they prefer the GTS model because it is easier to live with. So what do you think is the next thing SRT has been wrong about?
