In one of their more unique projects, Carlex Design has come up with a vintage, retro-looking interior package for the Mercedes G-Class. It is a fitting treatment for the G-Wagen given the car’s exterior design which hasn’t changed much sine 1970s.
The vintage interior Carlex has designed for the Mercedes G-Class is not harking back to the 70s though. It’s a brown-themed leather and wood design reminiscent of the 80s and early 90s Mercedes-Benz models. Pretty much every visible surface is covered with rich and heavy leather, complemented with cool patterns and contrast stitching. You will not find a trace of plastic anywhere in this cabin.
Meanwhile, the center console and the dashboard are wrapped in a blend of leather and wooden trim pieces, while the roof is headlined with brown velvet-like nubuck. The designers have also put a few leather pouches around the cabin, providing the occupants with a place to put maps or whatever, and further boosting the retro look of the cabin. A wooden steering wheels wraps thing up nicely.
The Mercedes G-Class upon which this unique treatment is implemented is a fairly old G463 model, so it all works. What we would like to see is a brand-new G63 AMG getting an interior like this.
