The limited edition Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series will go down in history as one of the coolest and yet least loved AMG products of all time. Swiss tuner Cartech recently got their hands on one of these bad boys for some light modification, so it’s a good time to have another look at the SL Black and see if the passage of time has changes anything.

The problem with the Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series is that although it looks cool and desirable, it is a very pointless and somewhat stupid car. For starters, you get a Mercedes SL with a solid roof which means the defining feature is missing. Then there is the race car-harsh ride of the car, and the peculiar handling which had to be set up this way to contain the fury of the atom bomb that’s under the bonnet. That atom bomb, meanwhile, is constantly harassed by an overzealous traction control, and the nest result of all that is a rubbish driving experience.

But none of that takes away from how awesome the Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series looks as an object what with the flared wheel arches and extra-large grilles and vented bonnet and rear wing. The one Cartech got to mess around with is a matte grey car to which they have added a set of brushed clear HRE P103 wheels in sizes 21 inch rear and 20 inch front.
