Maserati Quattroporte at Maserati SUV Set For Frankfurt Debut

Looks like we are going to catch the first glimpse of Maserati SUV sooner than expected. The car is apparently set for debut at IAA Frankfurt autoshow.

To be revealed in concept form, this Jeep Cherokee-based 4×4 will go on sale worldwide in 2013. The car will share most of its underpinnings with the American SUV and will be built alongside the Jeep Grand Cherokee in the Jefferson North plant in Detroit. But it gets a unique Maserati design and exclusive interior. So customers won’t be able to tell it’s actually a Jeep and not a real Masser.

Maserati SUV might also get different engine and suspension than the Cherokee.

This SUV is not the only new model Maserati will launch in the next few years. They are also working on a baby Quattroporte, a four-door GranTurismo, to rival cars like Mercedes E Class and BMW 5 Series. This model will get an upgraded version of Chrysler’s Pentastar V6 with over 400 hp output.

There’s one other new Maserati in the pipelines as well. It’s a flagship luxury model which sits above the Quattroporte in the range and offer better space and more luxury than the QP, which is more of a sports sedan than a real luxury saloon capable of competing with Mercedes S Class and BMW 7 Series. This one will get a revised version of the current 4.7 liter V8.
