A few days ago we reported that Maserati is unhappy with the name Kubang for its upcoming luxury SUV, and is looking to change it. Now at the Paris Motor Show they officially confirm that and announce the new name. The new Maserati SUV is going to be called the Levante. Earlier reports suggested that Levante is secured for Maser’s new small sedan, but that is going to be called Ghibli.
While Ghibli is a name with a lot of history in Maserati range, harking back to the 1960s, Levante is derived ‘Via Emilia Levante’ in Bologna where, almost a century ago, the Maserati brothers decided to from that car making company. Maserati Levante is set for a 2014 launch, the year Maserati will be celebrating its centennial. So it’s all good!
Maserati also confirmed that the all-new Quattroporte will carry on with the same name. As mentioned, they also announced Ghibli for the new high-end E segment four-door saloon.
