If you think that this year’s Detroit Auto Show has nothing to offer due to absences of many famous brands, you are very wrong because Americans are preparing heavy to show the world that they still got much to live for! Last week we got a preview of Cadillac SRX and now, Buick has revealed its new LaCrosse sedan. This is another product of Buick’s revolutionized design line, Enclave is a good example for this, developing the firm’s new image. It is still very Buickish, bulky, chubby, heavy, but you have to say it’s not a bad looking car. Specially in comparison with the old LaCrosse which honestly was a crap in every way!
The car is in direct competition with Lincoln MKZ and Acura MDX and is priced accordingly, starting at $25,640 when it hits the showrooms in summer 2009. It comes in CX, CXL and CXS trim levels. the base car will get a 255 hp, 3.0-liter V6 from Cadillac SRX, while there is a 3.6-liter V6 with 280 hp first seen in Caddy CTS, although the power is reduced here in order to get better mileage, probably does 28 mpg in highways. An all-wheel-drive system is also available as an option for CXL and CXS, which is pointless! because such car would never need an AWD system anyway! It just add up to the weight and price and has no good use, specially in America!
Interior also is totally living up to date, no more rubbish dashboards made out of a low quality plastic you used to see in all American cars! There is leather and wood, and they designed it in a very modern nice looking way. There are a lot of new age gadgets as well, Bluetooth, a USB port, a backseat DVD system with dual screens, and more. It even has Head Up Display! It is sophisticated.
So, It might not be a serious opponent for European players in this segment, but it is a very good car for modern America. Buick showed that they finally realized how to make proper cars, as Enclave’s sales numbers prove.
