Mercedes To Revive SL55 AMG Badge

News Emerge that the next AMG-powered Mercedes SL won’t be called SL63, but SL55 AMG, like the good old days!

After the Type R230, Mercedes stopped using the supercharged V8 in the AMG version of the SL and replaced it with the 6.3 liter naturally aspirated V8, hence the SL63 name. They’ve applied the same pattern to other AMG models as well. Now though, the 6.3 V8 itself is being replaced across the range with the new 5.5 liter Biturbo V8. This engine is already being used in CL63, CLS63 and S63 AMG.

They are all still called 63. But for the new SL Mercedes figured why not bringing back the SL55 badge. It makes more sense now that it’s got a 5.5 liter engine!

Anyhow, I Know it’s just a badge and doesn’t make any real difference, but SL55 somehow sounds cooler than SL63. Plus, I personally have great memories with SL55 AMG so I’m glad its back!
