The M50d is the name of an alleged super-diesel M-version of the BMW X6, the first diesel car by M department. Following the first teaser now we have a few more details to share with you.
This diesel monster will come with a new and highly advanced tri-turbo straight-six engine which does plenty of miles to the gallon and more importantly churns out 380 hp and a massive 545 lb-ft of torque (740Nm).
That power is said to take the mighty X6 from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds. An astonishing record for a diesel-powered SUV. Who needs an X6M!
The M50d will go into production in April 2012 and will feature a revised front-end design and new taillights to be distinguished from normal models.
It’s all jolly well, but we’d rather wait for this car’s sedan brother, the 5-Series M550d. It will get the same engine but because the 5er is lighter and it’s not a high-riding crossover, it’ll do 0 to 60 in 4.7 seconds, while returning an estimated fuel economy of 38 mpg (6.3 liter per 100 km) with 165 g/km CO2.
