Following the BMW Zagato Coupe of Villa d’Este, the German-Italian pair teamed up once again to come up with a roadster version of the same car for 2012 Pebble Beach event. The previous car was a coupe take on the Z4 Roadster. This one seems more like a Z4 in a body kit. And it’s not a particularly pretty body kit either.

As with the Coupe, the Zagato Roadster maintains its Zagato double-bubble roof in the convertible top cover. That is the Italian designer’s signature cue. The rest of car is pretty much the same as the Coupe, with an aggressive front-end featuring bespoke headlight, bumper and bonnet, flared wheel arches and new side vents, and of course the unique rear-end design.

Other nice details include 19-inch light-alloy wheels in classically sporty five-spoke design, and exclusive exterior paint finish, a brilliant grey with impressive depth that looks like liquid metal.

All these changes make the low-slung Roadster look less clunky than the Z4. But you know what, we still think the standard car is prettier.

As for the interior, the design of the cabin is the same as the production Z4, but Zagato has re-trimmed it using lavish materials, mainly brown leather wraps that extend from the instrument panel over the door sill and around behind the seats, and even incorporates the roll bars.

Details of Zagato Roadster’s powertrain are yet to be released.
