So this is the all-new Maserati Quattroporte, previewed here ahead of its official debut at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show. The design of the QP is substantially changed over the first-gen car, but it has the same swagger, the same menace and anger that made the previous model such a hit.
Now, some might argue that the new car’s head and taillights are just downsized version of the ones on the GranTurismo. And they probably are. Yes, there are faults in the Quattroporte’s looks, it’s not perfect. But neither was the old one, and nobody seemed to care about that car’s imperfections after they looked at it more than twice. Same applies to the new model; it’s about the whole package, and it rocks.
Maserati is not yet ready to reveal the specs and details of the QP. The press release they sent out is very vague and talks mostly about increasing production and stuff like that. But they do confirm the new Quattroporte is thoroughly enhanced in terms of refinement, comfort, safety and efficiency, without compromise on handling and speed.
They are not joking. A look at the new interior convinces you that this car is much more sophisticated than its predecessor. The layout of the dash might look a bit boring, but there is a sense of absolute luxury about it. The buttons appear to be arranged with more sense, the cabin is more ergonomic, and the materials, even in the pictures, scream quality. Nice!
And here’s the beating heart of the new Maserati Quattroporte; a hand-assembled Ferrari V8. It’s not a fully-fledged Ferrari engine like what they put in the 458, but it has the same DNA. Maserati had to tweak it a bit to meet the fuel efficiency requirements. But rest assured, it is going to provide the super saloon with awesome performance.
This video sheds more light on the new Quattroporte’s details. For more we’re going to have to wait for the NAIAS 2013:
This looks as good as the previous model. The more you look at it the more gorgeous it becomes. Black with blacked out rear windows and it looks like a Mafia Bosses car. The only shame is i don’t see enough of them!
