Illuminated Mercedes-Benz Star: Good or Ghastly?

This is not some cheap aftermarket nonsense. Mercedes Accessories GmbH is now offering an official illuminated emblem star for Mercedes Benz models. They probably looked at the Range Rover and thought their SUVs should have more bling on the front too.

So they came up with this idea and put some lamps in the logo. It is actually fairly high-tech this shining star. It features optical fibers and a system that controls it. The logo is turned on every time you unlock the doors, shut the car down, or open the trunk. It also stays on for 15 seconds when you close the doors.

This 300 Euro is currently available for the ML and GL models, with E, C and CLS classes to be added. Models fitted with distronic plus system can’t have this, because apparently it messes with the radar’s business.

So, what do you think? Is it cool, or just a ghastly novelty for show-offs?
