MINI is introducing a new app for its Connected infotainment system that, as the name suggests, measures driving excitement! It works pretty much like a video game, and it awards the driver Experience Points (XP) depending on how skilfully and safely they can handle their MINIs.

This is part of Driving Excitement suite of features and can be downloaded as a free app starting from next month. You have to download it on your iPhone and then upload into the car. The app monitors your steering, braking, accelerating, and ear changes, and gives you XP is they are good.

If you get 100 XP in each categories you go the next level and get a badge. Sounds distracting – and maybe even dangerous, as you may be tempted to take risks in order to increase your XP – but quite good fun nonetheless.

It is not the only distracting MINI Connected feature. It also includes web radio function, the Google Local Search and Send to Car services, use of Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare, the AUPEO! and Stitcher services, reception of RSS news feeds, use of the iPhone’s calendar, and the Driving Excitement, Mission Control, Dynamic Music and MINIMALISM Analyser functions.
