Much to the delight of the unnecessarily big, but undeniably awesome, V12 engines fans, AMG boss Ola Källenius has confirmed that his company will keep making them for at least six more years. It is getting harder and harder to justify the V12s, but they still have big fans among AMG’s top brass.
Källenius also confirmed that AMG is now looking into hybrid powertrains as a way to lower their average fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. He believes there is still a lot of potential left in AMG’s conventional engines to become more fuel efficient, but in the future going hybrid is inevitable.
In any case, AMG engines will maintain their main characteristics which are massive power, huge speed and aggressive noise. Those are the reason Källenius dismisses diesel engines altogether. They might be fuel efficient, but diesels simply aren’t as exciting as petrol engines. Fact.
