News arrived that Alfa Romeo is going to revive the GTA badge, which they only use for their hottest models, for a new and powerful version of the Giulietta. The car could use the same 240 horsepower 1,750 cc turbo engine currently employed in the 4C sports car.

Now, some may argue that 240 hp is not enough to make Alfa Romeo Giulietta GTA a properly hot hatch, and that you can already get pretty much the same amount of power from the QV version. That is true enough, but a hot hatch is not defined just by its engine.

There are many ways that Alfa can improve the Giulietta and make it worth of the GTA badge. They can try and shed a few kilos off its weight, stiffen the whole thing up, lower the ride height, maybe even put adjustable coilovers on it. A sharper steering system would be nice, and a short-shift manual gearbox. Not to mention a cool body kit distinguished the GTA is also a must.

The end result won’t be as crazy as, say, the 147 GTA, but it’ll be pretty exciting nonetheless. The Giulietta has been a life saver for Alfa, and definitely deserves a hot version.
