Everyone’s favorite car reviewer Chris Harris is back in the racing seat, as he took the wheel of a BMW M3 DTM race car for a couple of leisurely laps. This is the very car in which DMT champ Bruno Spengler makes his living. Sounds like a fun job, but as Chris finds out, it’s not as easy as it may seem at first.

DTM, German touring car championship, is the hardest and most demanding version of touring car racing, and this BMW M3 is the closest thing to a single-seater race car.

Watching this video you learn why a DTM car has to have such weird and awesome appearance. It needs a very complex aerodynamic design to work properly, and the only way to achieve it is by using those massive wings, large splitters, and vented fenders. DTM cars have a strict weight limit and the extreme aerodynamics is required to keep them on the ground at high speed. They are pretty amazing feats of engineering, these cars.
