Americans’ memory of Alfa Romeo cars dates back to the days of the Graduate, Dustin Hoffman, and the Spider. They missed out on many awesome cars in the years Alfa decided to focus only on Europe. But now the wait is over as the Italian company confirms its official U.S. return at this year’s New York Auto Show.
The story of Alfa Romeo’s U.S. return has been a frustrating one. Time and again they said they’re coming, only to postpone the plans shortly afterward due to financial or logistical issues. In recent years though, the main reason Alfa held back was probably because they didn’t have a car American customers would like.
There was the MiTo and there was the Giulietta. And that was it. But now they have the magnificent Alfa Romeo 4C sports car, which marks the brand’s return to U.S. soil in style, and paves the day for future model, which include a sports sedan and possibly even a SUV.
“With more than 60 new vehicle reveals scheduled this year, the New York Auto Show is accustomed to hosting a wide range of exciting, newsworthy events,” said Show Chairman John LaSorsa. “The recent announcement that Alfa Romeo is returning to the market and has chosen the New York Auto Show to mark the occasion is very special for us and will be well received by our visitors.”
