BMW 9-Series Concept Set for Beijing Debut

BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe 600x422 at BMW 9 Series Concept Set for Beijing Debut

Credible sources are reporting that BMW is going to surprise the auto world by unveiling a new 9-Series concept at the upcoming Beijing Auto Show (2014 Auto China). It will be a grand luxury coupe on the line with the 2013 Gran Lusso concept, and initially it will only be launched in China.

BMW 9-Series Concept will be based on a new lightweight platform that underpins the next BMW 7-Series as well. It will reduce the weight of the 7er to the level of the current 5-Series. It will also boast super-advanced interior technologies and infotainment systems. These too will be shared with the next-gen 7er.

The ‘surprise’ part of BMW’s plans for the 9-Series is ruined now, obviously, but we still don’t know what the car looks like and what sort of powertrain it features. So we’re looking forward to the Beijing Auto Show this year.

A production version of the BMW 9-Series could be launched in China as soon as 2016. Until then if you want a big, luxurious German coupe, take a look at Mercedes S-Class Coupe.
