In the latest series of teasers for the Mercedes AMG GT, the German automaker confirms the sports car is getting a brand-new 4.0 liter bi-turbo V8 (M178) engine, and reveals its detailed specs. Here are the headlines: 510 horsepower, 650 Nm of torque, weight 209 kg, emissions standard EU6.

Of course, some of you might be thinking Audi has been getting that kind of power from a 4.0 liter for years. And that’s true. But Audi is often prepared to compromise on important stuff like sound and responsiveness for the sake of power. AMG is not like that.

To make sure the engine in the Mercedes AMG GT makes the power while retaining all the right AMG characteristics, the engineers had to go an enormous length. The GT’s 4.0 Liter V8 features NANOSLIDE technology for its cylinder barrels that minimizes friction, and lightweight aluminum pistons. The cylinder-head, meanwhile, is made from a Zirconium alloy.

What’s more, all four camshafts in this engine are variable and it features high-end Piezo injectors. These systems make it possible to arrive at the best compromise between performance and efficiency.

Other features of Mercedes AMG GT M178 V8 include turbos located inside the cylinder bank; active engine mounts; dry sump lubrication; and two-mass flywheel wit centrifugal pendulum for smoothness and immediate power delivery.
