These days if you are prepared to spend around 90 grand on a sports roadster, the car everybody tells you to buy is the Jaguar F-Type, the V6 S version. No doubt the F-Type is a fine car, but the least you should do is look at some of its rivals.

The SLK is a tad old – it’s only four years old, but such is the pace of the industry – but it can still cut it in a sports roadster battle royale. The car has a big naturally-aspirated V8 and something that will make the F-Type jealous: a folding hardtop.

The Jaguar, on the other hand, is incredibly hot. With a 375 hp V6, it is underpowered compared to the Merc’s 415 hp, but it sounds like it’s got a million horsepower, and some of these horses are armed with assault rifles!
