The 2011 German touring car championship which will begin from May will have a new safety car, the 2011 Mercedes C63 AMG.
No performance modifications have been necessary in order to optimize the C63 for the job of safety car, as it comes with a 6.3 liter V8 developing 487 hp and the AMG performance pacck which adds high performance brakes, optimized ESP system and uprated chassis and suspension. What’s more the car has the SpeedShift MCT 7-speed transmission with four driving modes and a Race Start launch control system.
Most of the changes in fact are cosmetic. The C63 Safety Car gets distinctive DTM Safety Car logos, the LED light bar on the roof and the stroboscopic flashing LED lights at the front and rear. A number plate illuminated with LEDs and the words “Safety Car” on the boot lid make the car easier to see in poor weather conditions. To facilitate communication with Race Control, the Safety Car is fitted with a radio system and a TV monitor.
It also comes with AMG sports bucket seats with four-point seat belts. Mercedes has been providing DTM with safety cars since year 2000.
