Tuning kit for the 2013 Mercedes SL are starting to appear one by one as the car get its feet grounded in the market. Here’s Brabus take on the new SL500, a full version of what was previewed before in black, and it looks pretty good. Apart from the visual treatment, this package also includes a substantial power upgrade to make the new SL63 feel completely pointless.
In terms of styling, Brabus fits the SL with a new front lip, revised side skits, new side vents, a rear apron with a new diffuser unit plus four round tailpipes, and a boot lid spoiler. They look great in silver, but this generation of Mercedes SL is very color sensitive. So we’re not sure how does it look in white or black. It could look even cooler, or it could suck.
As always, Brabus offers a wide range of wheels in various sizes, from 18 to 20-inch, and various designs, and also different high performance tires.
After finishing the body work, suspension lowering is in order to make the car more dynamic, so it can handle the extra power brought by Brabus PowerXtra CGI kit that sits on the top of the SL500’s twin-turbo 4.7 liter V8, and adds 85 horsepower. That means the car now has 520hp and 820Nm of torque; the same sort of power you get from a SL63.
With that power at the disposal of your right foot, 0 to 100 km/h is dealt with in 4.4 seconds, and the top speed, well, that depends on your specifications. Brabus can set it at 250, 275 or 300.
Other bits and bobs of this program include a new sport exhaust system to make the engine’s sound reflect its inner power, a 40% locking limited-slip diff for superior handling, and various carbon and wood trims as well as leather packages for the interior.
