Hurricane Sandy hit New Jersey hard and left a large swath of destruction in its wake. At Port Newark it flooded lots of cars parked at the bay, including 16 Fisker Karma luxury electric cars, which caught fire after being submerged by the surge.
Now, it could have been blamed entirely on the hurricane if it weren’t for the Karma’s history of catching fire for no obvious reason. This recent event is more peculiar than the previous occasions, because according to Jalopnik’s report the cars “first submerged in a storm surge and then caught fire, exploded.” They say it might have something to do with the salt in the sea water that caused Karma’s electrical systems to go all crazy and ignite.

Over 300 cars have caught fire in NY/NJ after being submerged in saltwater by hurricane sandy. Three Toyota prius caught fire on this same port as the Karmas.
The cause of the second previous Karma fire was traced to a faulty engine cooling fan whose bearing could wear and short. That fan was recalled in all of a week. The cause of the first fire could not be proven but it occured under similar circumstances to the second, with the cooling fan running after parking.
Why do you autoblogs insist on smearing Fisker? All you have to do is stick to the facts — but then you wouldn't have a story I guess.
