Volvo S60 Polestar at Volvo S60 Polestar Coming To L.A. Auto Show

Volvo is bringing the S60 Polestar Concept to the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show for its American debut. The polestar S60 is one of those car that, if made, will definitely become a future classic. The reason? It’s got a 500 horsepower straight-six turbo engine.

That engine gives the car a unique character; a feature by which it will be remembered forever. It wouldn’t be so important if it had a V8 or a V12, because then it wouldn’t be special.

This turbo I-6 starts life as a 300 hp unit powering the normal S60. Polestar, Volvo’s performance and motorsport partner, then fits it with a Garret 3171 turbocharger, Ferrita 3.5″ stainless steel exhaust system, plus modified cylinderhead, combustion chambers, and intake system. The result is 508 horsepower and 575 Nm of torque.

Other parts of the car are improved accordingly to cope with the performance of that engine. It’ll take the S60 from 0 to 100 km/h in a pulverizing 3.9 seconds, and onto a top speed of over 300 km/h. To remain in check, the Volvo S60 Polestar has Haldex AWD system, Ohlins sport suspension and large brakes.

Volvo has not yet decided on this car’s fate, but they are very tempted to at least make a couple as a showcase of their engineering brilliance.
