The next-generation, British-built Nissan Qashqai is going to get a major overhaul, according to Nissan’s global product manager Andy Palmer. The popular SUV which was one the founders of the compact crossover segment when it was first launched will not only get lots of new tech, it will also look completely different than the current model.

To be built on a new, modular platform shared between Nissan and Renault, the new Qashqai will boast a much bolder styling with dynamic curves and styling features such as a sports grille and a roof spoiler. The design of the current Murano will probably have a big impact on the looks of the little car.

In terms of performance, the car will get a range of fuel efficient engines, including a brand-new 1.2 liter 3-cylinder engine with 113bhp which will replace the current 1.6 unit. Meanwhile the 1.6 liter diesel will be revised to cut its CO2 emission to under 100 g/km. In 2015 there will be a hybrid version with CO2 emissions of under 50 g/km.

The new Nissan Qashqai is being prepared for debut in November. Market launch is expected early next year.
