Kia Motors released the first pictures of the 2014 Kia Soul urban crossover, set for a full reveal at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. The new soul has been given a facelift and also more ground clearance. So it is now more of a crossover than before.

It does look quite cool and funky in the pictures, but you have to keep in mind it is still a compact car. The Soul is a good city runabout with a touch of utility that makes it a more versatile car than the average hatchbacks and MPVs. What’s more, it uses the same platform as the new Kia cee’d, which means it’ll have better ride, handling and refinement than the old model.

The design of the 2014 Kia Soul is inspired by the 2012 Kia Track’ster concept. The squared shoulders, wraparound greenhouse, high-mounted tail lights, plus the revised look of the front give the car fresh appearances. Mind you, the car shown here is the European-spec. The Soul you get in your country may be slightly different in details. Inside, Kia promises higher quality materials and a more driver-focused design.

Kia Soul always had a great range of accessories available for it. For the 2014 model Kia will showcase, at IAA, a new SUV Styling Pack, featuring piano black bumper trim, side skirts, wheel arches and a black painted roof.

There will be a range of 1.6-litre GDi petrol and CRDi diesel engines, as well as six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, available for the 2014 Kia Soul. Market-specific details will be released closer to launch in Spring 2014.
