Maserati’s collaborations with Italian fashion brands dates back to the early days of the company. Now the car maker is celebrating its joint anniversary with prominent the fashion giant Bulgari with a new sports watch called Bulgari Octo Maserati.
It is of course not the first time Maserati and Bulgari have collaborated on a watch. But the new watch has a more subtle design than the previous attempt, Octo Quadri-Retro, while remaining loyal to the design features of both Maserati and Bulgari.
The limited-edition Bulgari Octo Maserati which is nicknamed Velocissimo, meaning “the fastest”, features self-winding chronograph movement and 45 jewels and distinguished by its extremely high frequency, at 36,000 vibrations per hour. It also boasts a silicon escapement and an oscillating pinion operating as a clutch and Calibre BVL 328 with 50-hour power reserve.
But those are mere technical details compared to the design of this watch and the material used in it making. Bulgari Octo Maserati is a true work of art; from the blue alligator leather strap, secured to the wrist by a double-blade steel folding clasp with a safety fastening, to the champlevé dial inspired by the car’s speedometer. There will indeed be only 1,914 Octo Maserati chronographs, in tribute to the founding year of Maserati.
