Having enjoyed an enormous success with the previous R8’s customer racing program, Audi was quick to come up with a racing version of the new generation of the super car. Unveiled alongside the production model at Geneva earlier this year, the 2016 Audi R8 LMS is now in production and available to order.

To be more precise, the production of the new Audi R8 LMS will kick off in about ten days (September 21), which means you have enough time to sell one of your legs to raise the money you will need to buy the race car. The LMS is priced at 359,000 euros, and that is the base 585 horsepower version. Audi Sport customer racing offers the car including a starter and parts package for the total price of 398,000 euros.

Audi made a total of 135 Audi R8 LMS of the previous generation, which goes to show how popular it was with racing teams as well as privateers. It also shows producing this bad boy is fairly easy for Audi, since about half of the parts for the road-going high-performance sports car and the race car are identical. The new model’s production is limited to about 45 units per season. The new R8 LMS covers the GT3 regulations that will be in effect from 2016 until at least 2018.
