The bad news for prospective buyers of the 2016 Kia Optima in the UK is that all four versions of the car has the same engine, a 1.7-litre CRDi turbodiesel unit with 139bhp and 340 Nm of torque, featuring start/stop. You get to choose between a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. It’s a weak powertrain, but on the up side it return 67.3mpg corresponding to a CO2 rating of 110g/km.

The main reason why would one be interested in purchasing the 2016 Kia Optima, apart from its good looks, is, as it has always been, features and equipment. The standard kit on the new model include 7.0-inch satellite navigation system, reversing camera, dual automatic air conditioning, cruise control with a speed limiter, electrically heated folding mirrors, a six-speaker DAB radio,17-inch alloy wheels, dual projection headlights with static cornering lights and LED daytime running lights, powered two-way driver’s seat lumbar adjustment, Electronic Stability Control and Vehicle Stability Management, Hill-start Assist Control, Tyre Pressure Monitoring and an electronic parking brake.

And bear in mind there that is the entry-level ‘2’ grade. There are ‘3’ and ‘4’ levels plus the GT-Line and GT versions to be added later in the year.
