The Audi R8 GT3, probably the best looking race car ever, is locked and loaded for the new season of endurance racing in the hand of its private racers. Cautiously, Audi says that 2009 season is the test year for the R8 GT3, so they are not letting out too many cars!
The V8 engine in this stripped-out racing R8 develops 500+ hp but because GT3 regulations do not allow AWD, the power goes to rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox. The car weighs 1300kg, a full 300kg lighter than the production R8.
Inside and out, everywhere you look the carbon fiber is there! The body has been revised with aerodynamic in mind and also a huge rear wing is added for extra downforce. The suspension is barely changed, but re-tuned for track use, big ceramic brakes are also there.
Audi R8 GT3 will cost the privateer a healthy €250,000, but if you have Audi support team at your service you have to pay double, €500,000.
The car has lapped the Nurburgring at 8:41 during latest testings.
