Even though there are newer versions of the Land Rover Freelander around, the Freelander 2 is still very popular specially as you can get a good one for a very reasonable price. Now Unichip is making it more interesting by introducing a U-Connect ECU upgrade kit for the 2.2 liter TD4 variant of the car. It adds 20 bhp & 52 lb.ft of torque.
The car’s 2179cc, four cylinder, common rail Land Rover TD4 powerplant is now capable of delivering 180 bhp at 3164 rpm and 362lb.ft at just 2346 rpm. The advantages of the extra power include superior in-gear acceleration and better overtaking capabilities, as well as sharper sportier driving feel.
Unichip promises that the power gain with their ECU kit does not affect the the car’s 42 mpg fuel economy. Tests have proven that thanks to a combination of the increased low speed torque and efficiencies realised by the refined Unichip Uni-Q ECU map, fuel economy is unaffected by the Unichip U-Connect package, with drivers actually reporting a 5-10% better fuel consumption compared to standard.
Pricing for this package is set at £478.10 including VAT.
