Mini Beachcomber Going Into Production

Well, not exactly in this shape you see here! For those of you who don’t remember it, almost a year ago Mini revealed this cool but weird concept called the Beachcomber at the NAIAS. This car was an honest try to create a modern-day version of the Mini Moke. And now according to a report by Autocar, it is actually heading into production as the new Moke!

Based on the report, there’s two variants in the works. One is really close to the concept car you see here and the other a shorter sportier three-door version called the Canyon Concept.

As for the platform on which the new Moke will be based, one obvious solution is the underpinning of the current Countryman. But it will be pillarless, which means it could get suicide rear doors. So that’s one cool feature of the concept model gone! But they say the rest of bad-boy features will remain pretty much intact in the produciton car.
