This is the first trailer for the “Revenge Of The Electric Car” a sequel to the documentary “Who Killed the Electric Car“. Not sure really what to make of this film, but it lists the most influencing men in this field, so you know exactly who to hate for the demise of the great cars! By the looks of things, Electric Cars have become accepted as the future of motoring already! Good, bad, we don’t know yet. All we know is, soon the performance cars as we know them will be consigned to the pages of the history books. And that’s making us depressed already.
Why would you think performance cars will go away? Sure, the gas-burning cars will gradually go away, but not because EVs are being offered, they’ll go away because as peak oil causes the price of gas to increase, the demand for internal combustion vehicles will drop to the point the carmakers can’t build a business case for them. Witness what happened in 2008 when gas hit north of $4/gallon and the U.S. auto industry took a 40% hit in sales. Why do you think that won’t happen again, only this time, the gas prices won’t go back down.
As for performance cars, none of your internal combustion cars can hold a candle to the Tesla. Sure, there isn’t the loud noise associated with revving a big block engine to get some torque, but that’s a good thing. You’re going to see some amazing performance vehicles in all classes. The LEAF is a great example. It’s not even close to a performance car, but everyone who has driven it loves the acceleration. When the OEMs design for speed, the EVs they bring to market will be snapped up by those who love the torquey aspect.
Our communities will get quieter and our air cleaner, but we’ll still have fast cars.
