The new Nissan Micra DIG-S with its advanced petrol engine, which offers diesel-like economy, goes on sale in the UK from September, starting at £11,150.
The DIG-S features a busy little engine that promises refinement and performance of the petrol-powered engines, but with the great economy of diesel units. For that is has the Direct Injection Gasoline – Supercharged technology, hence the name. That is what makes the car a 1000 pounds more expensive than the normal models.
This 1.2-litre, three cylinder engine makes 98PS, returns 65.7mpg on the combined cycle, and emits 95g/km for the Visia version and 99g/km for the better-equipped Acenta and Tekna models. All these are very decent figures.
The car also features an intelligent alternator which recharges the battery when the engine power is not in demand, such as under braking. A stop / start function also helps to reduce emissions and fuel consumption by automatically turning off the engine whilst stationary and restarts again when you are ready to move off. The amount of CO2 saved during stop / start is displayed on the dashboard.
