Positive feedback to the Kia GT Concept at the IAA convinced the company’s top brass to put it into production. Question is, will be just as stunning as the concept?

Kia has always impressed with the production models that resulted from concept cars. Remember the Koup? The car was like 95 percent what we saw and admired as a concept.

The GT, however, has too many conceptual features for production, and if they omit them then what remains might not float the boat of those who encouraged Kia to make this car in the first place!

Kia will put the GT into production in 2013, after they facelifted the entire range of six models. The GT, being a sports sedan, will help the brand in its quest to put on a young, sporty and elegant face.

“Almost everyone has accepted the GT as being the right kind of car for Kia, and that says we’re ready to stretch the brand further,” said Philpott. “If we can get the same reaction globally as we did in Frankfurt then the GT can play a key role in moving the whole brand forward.”

“It’s early days yet, but clearly for a brand that wants to be known for sporty cars, then going into motorsport could be interesting,” he said.
