Maserati needs to sell more cars and increase their production volume. So they are branching out with new models, including a smaller, diesel-powered version of the Quattroporte.
This will be the first diesel car in Maserati history. It will be based on the next generation QP which is currently in the works. Now, because Maserati does not want to sully the QP’s bloodline, they are going to give this eco-minded version a new name.
Reports suggest it is called the “Maseratina” and it will be launched in 2013. The Maseratina will rival diesel-powered versions of BMW 5-Series, Mercedes E-Class and Jaguar XF.
To car will get a V6 diesel engine producing 300hp and an enormous 700 Nm of torque. So it’ll have decent performance. Now all they have to do is to find a way to give the car a properly sporty soundtrack. I mean a Maserati that sounds like a canal boat is just unacceptable, isn’t it.
2013 will also see the launch of Maserati Kubang SUV and the new generation of the actual Quattroporte.
