At 2012 Geneva Motor Show, VW will reveal a new version of its Cross Coupe SUV concept with an extremely frugal powertrain.
Revealed for the first time at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show, the Cross Coupe was conceived as a super economical car, powered by a plug-in petrol-electric hybrid system. The new version step things up a bit.
The car’s new hybrid system consists of a turbodiesel direct injection engine (TDI) and two electric motors. It makes 225 kW / 306 PS of power which is pretty good, but the best thing about it is the astonishing fuel economy (EU Driving Cycle), which is just 1.8 litres per 100 km (around 157 mpg).
That is a very remarkable figure, especially when you take into the account the car’s kerb weight of 1,858 kg, and top speed of 220 km/h (137 mph). It sounds almost too good to be true!
The rest of VW Cross Coupe doesn’t seem to be changed over the previous version. More details will be released during the Geneva Show.
